Thanks
to WIFI, our devices are freed from Ethernet connection cables. And most of us
believe that the place we put in the router has a clear effect on bandwidth. When
changing the location of the router from one room to another, or from one
corner to another, we notice a change in the speed of the Internet. The
positive result may not appear while uploading and downloading files, but the
effect may be significant in the value of ping and signal strength. Thus, this
helps us to play games and surf the Internet better, and it also helps in
delivering the signal to all smart home devices. Also, remember that the
presence of cables and wires for other electronic devices causes some
electrical interference in the same field as the internet connection waves,
which has an effect on speed. So, in the end, never put your internet router in
any of these places.
1- Get away from the kitchen
Regardless
of the reason that may force you to place the router in your kitchen, and
regardless of the risks of sticky things or cooked food spilling on the router,
there are many adverse risks to the router when it is placed in the kitchen, as
metal objects, hot steam, and the melting state emanating from the oven
burners, all of which are factors that affect the strength of the connection
signal. Your kitchen may be a great spot to receive the Internet without any
other place in the house. Still, it is a severe risk that may cause damage to the
router, and to a large extent may cause interference in the microwaves that the
router is trying to send to all your devices, so it is better not to think
about the kitchen at all costs.
2- Do not place the router on the edges of the windows
It is
better to place the router centrally, as it emits signals and communication
waves in all directions without exception, so if you place it on the edge of a
window, this means that you give up part of the bandwidth for its signal
outside your home, and this is what makes your neighbors able to see your
network all the time and perhaps exploited. But regardless of their ability to
steal the internet from you or the hassle and embarrassment that you might
experience as a result of someone asking to join your network. But it is better
for the router to be inside your home and in the middle or center of a place,
where all directions around it are empty of any other objects in order to send
its signal waves throughout your home and to all your devices in the best way.
3- Adjust antennas
If you
have an older router, you can probably adjust the direction of its antennas. If
you live in a two-story house and leave your router upstairs while you live
downstairs or go upstairs a lot with your phone or laptop, it's best to turn
the antennas down. If it is the other way around, it is better to turn the
antennas up. But if you live on the same floor, it is possible to leave the
antennas on either side of it.
4- Avoid too many walls
It is
normal for thick walls to block the signal and prevent the router from passing
communication waves from room to room. In fact, walls are capable of absorbing
radio waves and blocking the entire bandwidth allowed by the router for devices
connected to the network. It is better to place the router in open places, such
as the front room of the house or the living room, and this will allow its
signal to be passed to all adjacent rooms.
5- Leave it out in the open
Some of
us deliberately leave the router in the closet or on one of the shelves
attached to the ceiling of the wall or behind the doors to protect it from
sudden drops or manipulation by strangers. Unfortunately, this may reduce the
signal that it sends to all connected devices. The rule of thumb for any router
is that it should be left out in the open and visible at all times while
placing it in a shaded location will weaken its signal.
6- Avoid electronic things
Most
electronic devices such as televisions, radios, shower cables, and other
devices send waves that interfere with the same wireless signal waves that the
router sends to all connected devices. Cordless phones, baby monitors, and all
devices that emit radio signals are all common problems with poor bandwidth
because they compete with router signals within the same channel and can reduce
the maximum allowable range.
7- Don't put it on the ground
More
than once we advised you not to put the router on the floor, as the floors have
a terrible ability to easily connect the Wi-Fi signal. Therefore, it is better
to place the router on one of the high shelves in the house, on a sideboard, or
anywhere high off the ground.
8- Mirrors and fish tanks
You might be surprised to hear those mirrors and aquariums are the mortal enemies of the radio wave signal. Water is blocking the Wi-Fi signal, and mirrors are blocking the Wi-Fi signal, which means that the name sinks have a negative effect on where the router is located next to them. While the mirrors will act as a reflection of the radio waves used in wireless Internet transmission and may have a negative impact on the stability of the Internet or jamming and distorting the signal. So, it is better not to leave the router next to these things.
