Most of us only use the Task Manager in a very small number of cases, such as quitting programs and processes that are subject to Freeze. But we must remember that it was not created for this task alone, the task manager has many advantages, which are the ability to reduce the size of the default tabs, detect the programs and applications that consume the most computer resources, or constantly monitor performance through it and many other things. And now it's our time to get to know together about a group of its additional advantages that we do not use despite their importance and great benefit.
Reset System Explorer
The Windows Explorer process is responsible for many elements in the main user interface, such as the taskbar, file explorer, and the Start menu. Naturally, your first idea when encountering problems with these elements is to restart the computer, but instead, there is an optimal solution, which is to restart Initialize System Explorer.
To be able to do this, search for Windows Explorer in the Processes tab of the task manager, after accessing it, select it, then click the right mouse button and choose Restart to finish it and run it again. Everything will return to normal.
Switch between absolute values and percentages
When browsing the list of processes, the CPU shows you usage percentages only in percentage values, but for the other three tabs, you can switch between absolute values and percentages. Often percentages are better when you need to compare resource usage to the total available, for example, the default setting in absolute values will show you that a program is consuming 100MB of RAM, but if you go to percentages you may find that this percentage is not 0.5% of the total area.
To switch, just right-click on any of your actions and go to the Resources Value submenu, then choose the type of resource you want to change, and then select either the value or the percentage.
Go to the file path of the process
You may find yourself needing to go to the installation path of any application or process, just click on the process or application with the right mouse button and then choose Open File Location to go directly to the folder containing the executable file for this process, this method is very practical and faster than system explorer.
Set task manager options
The task manager contains some settings that help speed up the experience of using it according to personal preference. Through the option, you can choose Always On Top to install the task manager window above all other windows. You can also select the default tab to choose what should appear in the task manager when it starts or open it. In addition, you can click the View tab to make the update speed slower or faster, or even pause it if you want to take a picture so you can check the values or upload a picture of it to the Internet.
Queue String Analysis Feature
As we mentioned in the introduction, the main reason to use the task manager is to end a program that is in a frozen state. But when you encounter this situation a second time, do not rush to terminate the program, as you can perform further analysis through the “Analyze Wait Chain” feature, which tells you exactly whether this process is stuck waiting for another process or to help you determine why the wait chain is not The program responds correctly.
To know who is the real culprit behind the delay, you must go to the “Details” tab and then search for the process whose status you want to verify, select it and then click the right mouse button and choose to Analyze the waiting chain to see the details. If this process is stuck who is waiting for Any other processes, you will see these processes in the new window.
Search the Internet for suspicious operations
Sometimes you may discover that there are some strange processes in the task manager, although they may be normal processes, but it is always wise to check them if they are not familiar to you, even if it is out of curiosity and knowledge.
To be able to do this, select the process and then click the right mouse button and choose Search Online. Once you choose to search on the Internet, Bing will open in your browser and start searching for it and similar operations. The results will certainly help you to know if this process is safe or not.
Add additional columns for more details
By default the task manager displays several columns in the processes tabs, these columns cover the most important details, but it is possible to add several additional columns for more details on each process, just click the right mouse button on the upper area of the processes and a pop-up window will appear with more details to you can add it,
For example, if you select Type a new tab will be activated which tells you if this process is an application, just a background process, or a Windows process. If Publisher is activated, a new tab will appear showing the publisher and developer responsible for this process or application. But if you activate the Process Name column tab, you will find in front of each process its more accurate name, as it allows you to search for it better to know all the details.
